Take Me Away
Nicky’s colourful series ‘Take Me Away’ depicts the life and times of Canton House – a 1970s Chinese takeaway opened by the Yau family after emigrating to the UK in search of a better life.
Portraying a melting pot of modern-day Britain, the 15-image series explores culture, class and the sometimes lonely act of waiting. Shot over a period of eight weeks, Nicky built a replica of the takeaway inside his studio with the original details of the space meticulously reproduced. Here are some of our favourites.
